I am now now based in El Dorado, Kansas, but spent most of his life west of Sacramento, California, where my photographic roots took hold and grew through photojournalist work in high school in 1977 and through eventual employment at a Lake Tahoe newspaper until 1985.

Vocational photography shifted to more personal work in documentary, landscape and portraiture through various transitions in life: military service with the Marines, a return to college education, construction work, then eventually public service until retirement in 2014.

As art my photographic vision has formed in observing life and people in the drama of life as it unfolds. My social documentation draws me the events of human triumph, tragedy and tediousness. The beauty of Earth’s contours, rugged and noble, awes me as a fragile and precious Creation landscape. I find that beauty in this world is found in the diversity of the human in ideal and realistic form. Providence shapes our human character through different channels of circumstances which one can see in our faces and mannerisms, so I believe that in creating a portrait my subject and I are in a dovetailed collaboration between two human journeys in that moment.
